Check out an mp3 for the song "Cowboys and Cactus" from the upcoming Home Groan album "The Opening Act", due out September 20: http://www.homegroan.net/snd/cowboys.and.cactus.mp3
Home Groan is the band of Martin Hagfors who regularly collaborates with members of Motorpsycho in other projects such as HGH and Cream of the Crop and the song in question features Lars Håvard Haugen from Jaga Jazzist on guitar. The first single for the album will reportedly be called "I Drive".

Classic gore-grind band General Surgery has signed with Listenable Records. The band will enter Soundlab studios later this year to record their first-ever full-length album from a spring 2005 release.

Marduk and Finntroll will be teaming up with fellow metal acts Napalm Death, Vader, Black Dahlia Murder and Belphegor for the 'X-Mass Fest 2004' European tour, set for December 5-19. More details soon.

While everyone seems to be oh so excited about the new Fiery Furnaces album that comes out today, it's really all about the C.Aarmé s/t CD now out in the US via Epitaph. Buy it so they'll bring the band over on tour, dammit.

The Göteborg Post has revealed that Swedish gothic metal band Tiamar, now just the duo of Johan Edlund and Anders Iwers, is planning an album of covers ala Hederos & Hellberg for early next year. Among the songs planned are Bruce Springsteen's "Thunder road", The Eurythmic's "Sweet dreams", Bob Marley's "Redemption song" and Mary Manson's "The nobodies". Could be cool. Hellhammer: "I do not miss Euronymous or Dead, nor the old times. I like to progress instead of looking back. Neither bandmember was a big loss: both members left this world at a pretty appropriate time for Mayhem. In order for this band to exist like it does today, both bandmembers had to die. So melancholy is not my thing. Never resent, never regret."

Norwegian black-metallers Dimmu Borgir have confirmed that drummer Tony Laureano from Nile will be sitting in with the band for the Ozzfest tour due to the fact that new Danish drummer Reno Kiilerich's slow-going visa processing problems.

There's a new mp3 today from Swedish singer/songwriter John Alexander Ericson, now residing in Berlin. He's got a great ethereal voice that will probably remind people of Thom Yorke or maybe Jeff Buckley, but the first person I thought of was Ben Christophers. Either way, it's good stuff. The track comes from his album "Songs for quiet souls" which came out earlier this year and he's already got a new one called "Savannah songs" just about ready to go. Be sure to check it out.

Also new on the site today, you'll notice there's an ad for the For the Record Sunday afternoon shows in Stockholm that I'm helping to promote. It's a great lineup of artists, so be sure to check it out if you're in the neighborhood. Oh, and some new photos in header rotation as well.

The Shout Out Louds are playing a couple more showcase gigs in the US later this month:

07/23 - Rothko, NYC
07/26 - Mercury Lounge, NYC
07/28 - Troubadour, LA
07/29 - Spaceland, LA

I suppose it's only a matter of time before they get signed and the backlash begins.
