Ex-Emperor frontman Ihsahn reports that his second solo album "angL" is just about done and should hopefully be ready for mastering within a few weeks. He describes the music as a natural progression from "The Adversary", but with a somewhat heavier touch." No word on a release date yet, but his own label Mnemosyne Productions will be handling it in association with Candlelight Records.
A Perfect Friend, the dronepop duo of Thomas Denver Jonsson and CJ Larsgården (Pacta, Ondo), is putting out a new outtakes EP called "Graduation day" to tide people over until the eventual release of their sophomore album "Timber and modern ways". MP3: Ljudbilden & Piloten - Wedding
If you haven't seen the video for Ljudbilden & Piloten's "Wedding" yet, do it now. Don't worry, I'll wait for you. Now tell me, is that not the perfect marriage of music and image? (no pun intended) I don't think I will ever hear this song again without thinking of those women smiling and laughing. It's such a warm, beautiful experience, so soothing and joyous. Near perfect, even.
If you enjoyed the blissed out drone of Tobias Hellkvist as I have posted before, you will love this. If you appreciate the wordless vocals of I'm From Barcelona then yes, you'll probably like this too. If you love life, this is for you.

Barra Head
Go get beat up
PlayRec
Much like fellow labelmates Lack, this is driven, ambitious and conscious indie rock. The first obvious difference between the two is that Barra Head has a softer approach. The press release describes the band in an apt choice of words; "half a disciplined dance, half a raging battle between instruments." I hear traces of diverse acts such as The Afghan Whigs and Dismemberment Plan which, according to me, are influences to die for. And Barra Head are well on their way to stardom with a record that is kind of complex in its simplicity. Apart from a few songs, these are not tunes designed for the radio or hitlists; they are the kinds of songs that catch hold of you if you let them. The major part of "Go get beat up" is executed with a distinct and introverted feel to it, while some songs are more direct, aiming for the gut. I wish that they had more of the latter, especially since the band does it so well! Producer Tim O'Heir (!) has connected the dots on this one, seeing that their previous releases were a bit incoherent. This is the best this band has ever done.
