The all-star Martin Hagfors Cream of the Crop band featuring members from Jaga Jazzist, Hellbillies, Askil Holm band, Velvet Belly and Motorpsycho is doing a few dates around Norway in October. Their recent Øya Festivalen performance was just too good. The dates:

US label Touch & Go is releasing that Motorpsycho/Jaga Jazzist horn section "In the Fishtank" collaboration CD domestically next week.
FakeJazz reviews the Motorpsycho/Jaga Jazzist horn section "In the Fishtank" collaboration: "Despite some incredible contributions to the In the Fishtank series from Low + Dirty Three, Tortoise + The Ex, and June of 44, this stands far above the rest as the most intricate and thought-out offering yet."
Here's a page with all the info about that upcoming "In the Fishtank" record featuring Motorpsycho along with the Jaga Jazzist horns. Could be very cool methinks - they describe it as a "stunning cocktail of Stax Soul, John Coltrane and obviously, Pharaoh Sanders." Look for it on October 6 from Konkurrent.
Singer Suzanna Wallumrød (sister of ECM pianist Christian Wallumrød) and pianist Morten Qvenild (shining, ex-Jaga Jazzist) just finished up with the recording of their debut album together. It was produced by Andreas Mjøs of Jaga Jazzist, mixed by Helge Sten aka Deathprod (Supersilent, ex-Motorpsycho) and will see a release on Rune Gramofon in January.
NRK just put up an interview and profile on Motorpsycho and side-project The International Tussler Society. (in Norweigan)
Motorpsycho has reportedly been recording for the "In the Fishtank" live series from Konkurrent Records along with the Jaga Jazzist horn section. They apparently recorded about 50 minutes of music together such as a 22-minute version of "Tristano", "Theme de Yo-Yo" (Art Ensemble of Chicago) and a Lars Horntvedt-penned track called "India". Look for it around September, avalable from Touch & Go in the US. In the rumor mill: live Japan dates in December? I'll keep you posted if I get any details.
Last Days of April are currently back in the studio with producer/engineer Pelle Gunnerfeldt working on a new album. The plan is to do the tracking at Mission Hall Studio outside of Lund and then mix it at Pelle's own Studio Gröndal in Stockholm.
Added a new mp3 today from Last Days of April. Their latest album "Ascend to the Stars" just came out over here in the US and the track "Playerin" is easily my favorite from that release. In fact, it was my favorite summer single last year. Y'know those songs you sometimes hear on the radio around this time of year that seem to embody the essence of summertime? That song fits the bill perfectly. And as for this year, my pick (so far) would probably have to be "Reconsider Me" from Moneybrother. I figure y'all were just dying to know.
Otherwise, there's probably not going to be much news today as everyone is at Hultsfred fest it seems. Wish I was. Check out the Dagensskiva special on the event. Oh, and check out www.hultsfred.tv for more, too.

Entombed has been forced to cancel their appearance at the BW&BK 6-Pack Weekend in Cleveland, Ohio on June 13-14 after drummer Peter Stjärnvind's wife was hospitalized. The cause of her ailments are still undiagnosed and of course Peter wishes to remain with her at this time. Guitarist Alex Hellid commented, "Peter is really upset by this. He doesn't want to be the cause of us not playing. We all know how important this show is/was. We are really sorry, for the fans and for ourselves, because we really wanted to play." Alex and frontman L.G. Petrov still plan to be in attendance at the fest to sign autographs and meet with fans. Other bands still scheduled to play include Evergrey, Trouble and Candlemass.

Bridge Records has posted an update on the label's recent activity. Head on over for the full skinny, otherwise note the most important thing is that the new Jam Session album is now out. Their intriguing description:
It all looks awesome, and sounds even better. This record has been doomed, but we stared Satan in his eyes and told him we would not give up until we got this shit out. Since this needs to be heard. Great melodic breakdowns and then it just erupts into manic, furious assault.
